Summary (two parts)

Part 1: This proposal requests a retroactive budget amount of $CODE 10499.5 from the Developer DAO Treasury to reward the work of the Mentorship Programme contributions during Season 2 which was in 2023. There was $CODE remaining from the Season 1 budget that allowed payment of rewards to some contributors for Season 2. This budget formally requests enough $CODE to pay the remainder of them.

There is currently $CODE 357.5 in the Mentorship multi-sig 0x73c9E7E43d073Efc9eD96E774CcA6a5150f2F380

Part 2: This document also lets me start gathering information on what the next season of the Mentorship Programme should look like through an online survey form. I invite input from past mentors, mentees and contributors as well as insights from potential mentors and mentees, and prospective programme partners. The form will include some potential scenarios, but only as guiding context. The primary focus is to get your input, as you shall benefit most from the future programme. I would ask 10 to 20 minutes of your time now to help create a robust and sustainable programme for all involved.

Motivation

The Mentorship Programme has provided invaluable opportunities for mentees to build skills, explore careers in web3, and work on collaborative projects. Season 2 saw the programme grow greatly compared to previous iterations, where mentees collectively dedicated around 2000 hours to their mentorship, demonstrating significant commitment to personal growth. It also gave mentors the chance to share knowledge and develop future leaders within the DAO and in Web3.

The programme aligns directly with the Developer_DAO mission by supporting education and inclusion in web3. Moreover, this proposal ensures transparency and fairness by compensating all contributors who have not yet received their rewards. The feedback from the survey below will directly influence the structure and objectives of Season 3, therefore aligning with the D_D community’s evolving needs.

Scope of Work

For context, the programme from a mentors-mentees perspective officially ran from February to June 2023, and in a lot of cases, beyond that date. From the contributors perspective it spanned from December 2022 until September 2023.

Domain of Operations and Team

The work covered by this budget includes the following:

  • Creating and collating exit surveys for seasons 0, 1 and 2
  • Creating and collating onboarding surveys for season 2
  • Designing season 2
  • Pairing mentors with mentees
  • Hosting pairing and sync sessions
  • Managing ongoing mentor-mentee relationships
  • Developing tools, e.g. MentorBot
  • Developing documentation
  • Handling programme logistics and communication
  • Designing and minting NFTs for participants

Research in Season 3 resumed in October 2024 until the publication of this document on 30 November 2024 is also included in this proposal:

  • Handling programme logistics and communication with potential participants
  • Collating data from previous conversations and data collected
  • Designing, distributing and analysing entry surveys for participants in Season 3

This proposal will finalise payments for hours worked in mentorship roles, infrastructure development, and programme management.

Next Steps

  • Send Season 3 survey form to a broader audience, including past and prospective mentors, mentees, contributors and partners. Please click the link to open and complete the survey
  • Distribute the requested budget to contributors, therefore concluding Season 2 Mentorship Programme formally with final compensation
  • Close survey input on 21 December 2024 and review findings
  • Collaborate with interested parties in public channels, e.g. D_D Discord
  • Integrate all respondents’ input and design a programme
  • Launch Developer DAO Season 3 Mentorship Programme at the earliest opportunity in 2025. I think mid-January is a realistic prospect, but obviously depends on our collective input
