Authors: Erik_Knobl

Summary

Design and Product guild budget application for Season 1. It defines the high-level goals of the guild, our plans to deliver, the core team and the proposed budget.
The proposed budget is 28,400 $CODE, 300 USD (for Figma subscription) to be distributed over four months, and the hiring of a person for the role of Design and Product Lead.

Mission and Goals

Design and Product Guild supports the mission of Developer DAO of educating newcomers to web3, and building open source projects. Therefore, the guild will attempt to achieve the following goals:

  • Provide onboarding and recruitment for product builders willing to contribute to the DAO.
  • Educate members in the different areas of Design and Product.
  • Help contributors build web3 projects and public goods, by providing support, information and mentorships.

Scope of work:

Design and Product Guild will work to have a foundational base that will enable future success, with the following initiatives being supported:

  • Design Database. Build a list of willing contributors for the Guild, recording contributions to projects, guild initiatives and the DAO overall.
  • Merch Workstream. Help streamline the process for any official merch of the D_D, and deliver a S1 line, and improve the Style Guide.
  • NFTs Workstream. Draft an initial pipeline of official NFT projects for the D_D.
  • Product Workstream. Draft a plan for continual iteration in official D_D Products (website and derivatives), including the upgrades to the Design System.
  • Consulting Workstream. Draft a plan to initiate a consulting pipeline that would allow D_D to offer Product services.
  • Design Bounties. Define strategic bounties for tasks that can be completed by an individual person.
  • Recruitment Efforts. Scout for talented individuals with an interest in joining the mission of D_D in the Design Guild, and create a process in coordination with Community Guild that will allow them to be part of the guild.
  • Design and Product Advocacy. Create channels to support the individual work of the members of the Guild, increase their exposure, and increase their reach.

The following are the actions proposed to support these initiatives:

Define Core Team

A core guild team is required for managing all of the process, infrastructure, strategy, and supporting all the educational and building efforts. At least 3 members are needed to have an operating multig Safe. The current members who have volunteered to be in charge of it are:

  • Erik_Knobl#0082
  • jazza.eth#0178
  • Julo#0108

Define Core Tasks

Any member can volunteer for any of the following tasks, and if there are multiple volunteers, the Guild will vote to define one. The amounts are based on an hourly rate of 15 $CODE, as suggested in the $CODE Rewards proposal, and an average of 20 weekly/4 daily hours.
15 $CODE * 80 monthly hours * 4 months = 4,800 $CODE / Season

Role / Candidates Tasks to perform $CODE/Season
Design and Product Guild Lead / Erik_Knobl (description and rewards of the role below)
Guild Treasurer / (Open position) Ensure budgets and payments are distributed and registered at a regular cadence 2,400 (40 monthly hours)
Talent Coordinator / (Open position) Welcoming and onboarding new guild contributors. Documentation of meetings. 2,400 (40 monthly hours)
Product Management / Canna (She/They) Onboard new members interested in Product. Audit DAO projects and their Product needs, and Suggest improvements to the workflow of teams. 4,800 (80 monthly hours)

Define Bounty Program

Individual strategic tasks for the Guild with a defined reward. Any member of the Guild can volunteer to do a Bounty at any time. The task must be delivered before the end of the Season, and should be reviewed and approved by any member of the Core Team for the rewards to be released.

Bounty Description Reward
Design Database Build a list of willing contributors for the Guild, recording contributions to projects, guild initiatives and the DAO overall. 600 $CODE (20 hours)
Design System Upgrade Propose an upgrade for the Design System 600 $CODE (20 hours)
Style Guide Upgrade Propose an upgrade for the Design System 600 $CODE (20 hours)
Design Assets for other Guilds Design single tasks required by another Guild. These can range from Pitch Decks and Reels, to single POAPs and Social Media posts. 60 to 600 $CODE (2-20 hours)

Recruiting Talent

The Guild plans to scout and search for ten talented Design and Product Builders interested in being part of the DAO, and will provide them $CODE to support their membership. This effort will require 4000 $CODE, and will be done in coordination with the Community Guild.

Subscribe to Figma

Paying a monthly subscription to Figma for 5 designers is a prime need to be able to work asynchronously. The cost for 5 editors for 4 months is US$300.

Yo just droped a questions on [DRAFT] D_D Store application here - [DRAFT] D_D Store - #2 by kempsterrrr - just looking to clariy why we have budget rewards in both applications and if we need them.

Also, think it would be useful to add some info here with regards to how the design and product elements of this proposal will work. i.e. if it is one guild it should it therefore have one collective category in the server with channels for each area vs two separate categories?

Thoughts are if the application is for the Design and Product Guild then we should have a Design and Guild category with channels focused on each area rather than two categories as I believe that could be confusing. Maybe the Product guild evolves into an entirely separate guild in the future?

Hey @Erik_Knobl, is there an estimation of weekly hours the Guild Lead role will need to commit?

@willblackburn The calculation contemplates 25 hours per week.

@kempsterrrr I will update once approved.

Maybe the Product guild evolves into an entirely separate guild in the future?

That’s the plan: provide a temporary home, and if the initiative has success, they can become a guild in the future.

thanks mate. couple of things.

please add:

Authors: name, name, name
Supporting Budget Steward: name

to the top of the application. could you also please add the hourly figures next to the $CODE figures for the bounties and roles, please.

once these are done I’d be very happy to sponsor this application so feel free to add me as the budget steward if you like.

My initial response is that the budget numbers including bounties seem high.

An example is that at 15 $CODE/hr, those tasks amount to over 160 hours or 4 full time weeks of work.

Are the other core roles’ budget amounts from an hourly estimate of work?

Fixed most of the numbers, and added the hours for each task/bounty.

@kempsterrrr Done. Thank you.
