Summary

D_D Store (Formerly Merch ) budget application for Season 1. It defines the high-level goals of the team, our plans to deliver, the core team and the proposed budget. The proposed budget is 18,400 $CODE to be distributed over four months.

Mission and Goals

D_D Store supports the mission of Developer DAO of educating newcomers to web3, and building open source projects. Therefore, the project will attempt to achieve the following goal:

  • Create a revenue generating project for the DAO in partnership with creators of D_D.

Brand usage

D_D Store will be developed under the D_D banner, and will explore the possibilities of the brand in clothing, prints, nfts, and other products.

Scope of work:

D_D Store will work to have a foundational base that will enable future success, with the following goals for Season 1:

  • Define a lineup of products for the Season
  • Initiate plans for the construction of an online Store for the DAO.
  • Define guidelines for the usage of the brand by members of the DAO.

The following are the actions proposed to support these initiatives:

Define Core Team

A core guild team is required for managing all of the process, infrastructure, strategy, and supporting all the educational and building efforts. At least 2 members are needed to have an operating multig Safe. The current members who have volunteered to be in charge of it are:

  • joshcs.eth#3384
  • Erik_Knobl

Define Core Tasks

Any member can volunteer for any of the following permanent tasks. The amounts are based on an hourly rate of 15 $CODE, as suggested in the $CODE Rewards proposal, and an average of 20 weekly hours. 15 $CODE * 80 monthly hours * 4 months = 4,800 $CODE / Season

Role / Candidate Tasks to perform $CODE/Season
Coordinator (joshcs.eth#3384) Coordinate weekly meetings, and plan the roadmap. Onboard new members into the team. Coordinate with Metafactory 4,800
Treasurer (Open) Manage all payments. Manage contacts with MBD Guild for opportunities 600 (20 monthly hours)
Art Director (Open) Manage the art contributors, provide feedback, and ensure the products have a high standard. 600 (20 monthly hours)

Define Bounty Program

In addition to the Core Tasks, the team will have individual strategic tasks with a defined reward. Any member of the DAO can volunteer to do a Bounty at any time. The task must be delivered before the end of the Season, and should be reviewed and approved by another member of the Core Team for the rewards to be released.

Bounty Description Reward
Design Merch Design a complete line of products x3 1200 $CODE (40 hours) x 3
UX/UI Design Design MVP for D_D Store website. 1200 $CODE (40 hours)
Dev Create a basic store using a template or Vercel commerce and refine from there. 2400 $CODE (80 hours)

D_D Store

The goal of the project is to have the basic project of the Store defined and be working on it by the end of Season 1. If work is delivered before that, and the Store is operating, the project intends to sale the lines of clothing and merch already accepted, and work under the following split of the profit with the creators:

  • D_D Store core team - 20%
  • Designer - 40%
  • Developer DAO Treasury - 40%

Success Metrics and KPIs

  • USD 1,000 in revenue for sales.
  • Approve at least 2 different lines of clothing for sale on Metafactory.

Financial implications

This is the detailed list of all $CODE requirements for the goals of the project:

Concept S1 $CODE
Permanent Tasks 6,000
Bounties 12,000
TOTAL: 18,000

Next Steps

  • Discussion in D_D Store channel - June 14
  • Submit a reviewed proposal to Forum for further review - June 15
  • Submit final proposal for voting - June 17

Yo. Just wondering what the cross-over is here re budgets between this proposal and this line in the design and product guild budget

Merch Design a line of merch that includes at least five applications of the concept. 2,500 $CODE

Do we need a budget allocation in both /what’s the thinking here?

Also, have you thought about some kind of profit split similar to Metafactory?

For example (arbitrary numbers for illustration):

  • Merch core team - 20%
  • Designer - 30%
  • Foundation Treasury - 50%

Could be a nice way to reward folks in the DAO for design work with meat space funds rather than just $CODE. Would like also to create a strong incentive mechanism for making this a success both for the team behind it and also for activating designers in the DAO.

I think we can remove that bounty from the guild, if this one exists.

Good idea. We just need to define it with @joshcstein

Probs worth stating clearly this is only on the profit on each sale, not the revenue.

  • D_D Store core team - 10%
  • Designer - 50%
  • Developer DAO Treasury - 40%

Why such a heavy lean towards the Designer? I’d suggest maybe dropping that to 40% and then making the D_D store team 20% to make sure there is enough incentive to keep it going over time.

My few pence

gm everyone,

I’m writing to let you all know that our project team has decided to outsource some of our work to external contractors in order to efficiently create the first merch store. We have used 9000 $CODE of the budget as a grant to retain an outside counsel, operator, and third-party logistics provider to assist us with the legal development and operations of the store.

We made this decision because we believe that outsourcing this work to specialists in e-commerce, merchandising, and logistics will allow us to quickly and effectively launch the store, while allowing our team to focus on other important aspects of the project.

We will continue to keep the community informed about the progress of the store and any updates. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Best,
Josh

Thanks for posting this update @joshcstein

@kempsterrrr can we get the $CODE tokens being allocated to Josh sent to the team helping us setup the store as a sign of good faith.

They are covering expenses out of their own pocket so until the store makes money we could at least sent them some $CODE tokens so that they can join the DAO if they want, etc.

The plan is for them to get us two things over by the end of next week:

  1. A test link for us to review the Shopify store setup and process a test order to make sure everything works properly.

  2. They will get send us over a itemized list of cost for each product option (SKU) so that we can finalize which items we want to sell in the store and then they will ship a few sample orders to us for the team to review for quality, etc.

cc @joshcstein - thanks for the update chaps. love how you’ve gone around the current blockers to solve a problem and excited to see what comes of this. good work

Looks like the transaction went out from the Store Multi-sig, right?

Folks might appreciate some finer details on the approach:

  • Who are these people
  • What have we promised them
    etc.

absolutely excited to get this going and get past the legal blockers

Yep, it did.

Absolutely happy to speak more on this:

  • @isiah are you able to share more information yet on our contractor? in the case that you or I spun up an LLC, I’m not quite sure how much information I’d be willing to share about the actual details of the business setup or personal information, in the name of privacy. the contractor has extensive experience in international merchandise sales and fulfillment.
  • we will finalize a profit split once we see the cost of the items as detailed above. for now, the agreement is that the LLC, Shopify linked to that LLC, Shopify storefront, order production with 3PL, and order fulfillment, will all be handled by the external party.
